Item Description:"When World War Two broke out, the Luftwaffe was one of the most complete and sophisticated air forces in the world. And yet, at that time, almost its entire fighter complement of over one thousand aircraft consisted of just one particular model - the Messerschmitt 109. Originally known as the BF and then later the Me 109, this brilliant creation of Willy Messerchmitt was ultimately to be produced in greater numbers than any other fighter in the world, with over thirty-two thousand built before production finally ceased. More than two-thirds of all the German fighters built during the war were Me 109s, and they accounted for over half of all German kills. And yet it was very nearly scrapped on the drawing board".
